Mathematicians Begin to Understand OpenAI's Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Proof
According to Scott Armstrong, a research director at the French National Centre for Scientific Research, several groups of partial differential equation experts have largely understood the reasoning behind OpenAI's Navier-Stokes proof, and believe it goes beyond what humans could have originally conceived but does not exceed human comprehension. OpenAI used an unreleased new model to mobilize about 10,000 agents for an 88-hour effort, generating approximately 130 billion tokens, which were then translated into Lean by GPT-6 Astra for line-by-line machine checking. On October 6, a preprint pointed out discrepancies in some statements and derivations between the original manuscript and the Lean version, and the Clay Institute still lists the problem as in progress.
