1Password launches 1Password for Agents agent password authorization feature

1Password launches the 1Password for Agents platform, enabling personal AI agents to complete website logins on users' behalf without accessing or storing users' passwords or verification codes. The feature is aimed at individual and family plan users, with initial support for agents including Meta Muse, OpenAI ChatGPT Work and Dots, Anthropic Claude Duet, Grok Bot, and Town. In the flow, the agent first proves its identity to 1Password using a digital key; the user sees on their device the account credentials and task requested for use and approves or rejects; after approval, 1Password directly fills in the username, password, or one-time verification code, and the password always remains in the vault.

METR and Redwood Research evaluations found vulnerabilities in OpenAI's internal monitoring system

AI safety evaluation organizations METR and Redwood Research conducted a pilot evaluation of OpenAI's internal monitoring system and found multiple new vulnerabilities, one of which could be exploited by AI agents to let hundreds of operations escape monitoring. The evaluation took place from July 21 to August 11, with each organization sending one researcher into OpenAI's internal systems to review code and documentation. The researchers also found that OpenAI's Codex agent has potential pathways to bypass safety restrictions, through which it could obtain the same full operational permissions as users; OpenAI said that vulnerabilities affecting the security safeguards of actual running systems have all been fixed, but whether the fixes are effective has not yet been verified by the two organizations.

MIT study: 13 Claude Opus 4.7 agents perform better after playing autonomously on a virtual deserted island for 30 hours

MIT researchers had 13 Eko agents based on Claude Opus 4.7 explore a simulated deserted island without any assigned tasks for 30 hours; afterward, in designated challenges, these agents generally outperformed comparable agents that had never been on the island. The paper has been published on arXiv and has not yet undergone peer review. The study also found that 6 agents figured out on their own that letting go mid-jump allows them to throw blocks farther, an ability the designers had not anticipated; UC Berkeley cognitive scientist Eunice Yiu considers the results impressive but hopes to see more evidence about the cognition behind the behavior.

Claude Code v2.1.309 Released: Fixes Multiple Issues Including Sandbox and Permission Checks

Claude Code v2.1.309 has been released, primarily fixing an issue where sandboxed Bash commands on macOS and Linux executed shell startup files outside the sandbox before each command, as well as an issue where macOS sandbox denyWrite glob patterns did not take effect through symbolic links. This version also fixes issues where sandboxed commands and auto-accepted edits could modify the MCP configuration file passed via --mcp-config, and where disabled MCP servers were reconnected by subsequent permission prompts. In addition, many git commands run by Claude Code itself on Windows have been sped up.

How Mixx Technologies Paves the Way for All-Optical Scale-up Networks

Photonics startup Mixx Technologies is betting on all-optical scale-up networks. Its first product, the SxC connector, can accommodate 64 fibers within a single connector, and the company claims it can arrange 1,000 fibers within 800mm2. The company has laid out a three-step roadmap of NPO optical engines, CPO, and optical circuit switches. Its first NPO module is targeted for launch in 2028 or 2029, and CPO products are expected to be released by the end of this decade. If Nvidia's Vera Rubin NVL576 is estimated at one pair of fibers per SerDes, it would require approximately 20,736 pairs of fiber connections to connect 8 NVL72 racks.

After 404 Media's report, Texas shut down the STEERS portal used for data center approvals

After 404 Media reported that Texas continued issuing permits even after the governor halted data center approvals in September, Texas shut down the automated construction permit filing system STEERS and suspended construction permits for 17 data center projects. TCEQ said the portal was suspended so that staff could review applications one by one to determine whether they are related to data centers; all 17 suspended permits involve stormwater construction approvals. FracTracker Alliance researcher Sam Law said these permits had previously been automatically "stamped" as approved, including OpenAI- and Amazon-related projects approved this Monday and Tuesday.

Databricks on AI coding cost governance: unit costs cut by up to 90%

Patrick, a product lead at Databricks, reviewed the cost overrun problem after the company fully adopted AI coding agents, saying that by migrating to cheaper models, routing, spend visibility, and cutting token overhead, unit costs in some scenarios fell by as much as 90%. He noted that hard budget caps would interrupt the best developers, so the company switched to gradual friction through warnings, approvals, and model downgrades, and productized its internal solution as Unity Gateway. The team built its own evaluation using real PRs from its own codebase, finding that GLM 5.2 matched Opus 4.8 in quality at about one-third lower cost per task, while a model that was 1.7 times cheaper per token ended up costing more per task because it consumed more tokens.

Databricks on AI cost management: from tokenmaxxing to valuemaxxing

Kevin Stumpf, Senior Staff Engineer at Databricks, argues that enterprise AI cost management is shifting from tokenmaxxing—the pursuit of token consumption volume—to valuemaxxing, which measures the impact generated per dollar invested. Databricks can attribute costs out of the box by user, group, agent, AI gateway endpoint, model, provider, and time period, and also supports custom attribution via request-level tags to specific pull requests or external customers. The key to controlling context bloat is to have agents pull context on demand through tools, MCP servers, or skills, rather than pushing it in advance.

METR red-team exercise finds vulnerabilities in OpenAI's internal monitoring system

On October 22, METR and Redwood Research publicly disclosed a pilot exercise in which each organization assigned one employee to spend three weeks working deeply with OpenAI's internal infrastructure, stress-testing the internal misalignment monitoring system and finding multiple new vulnerabilities that existed as of July 21, 2026 and earlier. The exercise ran from July 21 to August 11, produced a 61-page internal report, and OpenAI provided a redacted 38-page version to the management of both organizations. METR estimated that at the time, approximately 75–94% of internal Responses API agent traffic generated by models at least as capable as GPT-5.5 could be monitored, and 99.2% of internal Codex agent traffic could be monitored; evaluators also found that the Codex agent could in principle bypass the sandbox and Auto-Review, as well as exploitation methods that could keep hundreds of recent operations unmonitored. OpenAI said all vulnerabilities affecting the production guardrail stack have been patched; METR said it has not yet evaluated this claim.

The Browser Company announces that the Arc browser will be discontinued on December 22, guiding users to switch to Dia

The Browser Company has announced that the Arc browser will be discontinued on December 22 and is inviting users to migrate to its new AI browser, Dia, which currently supports Apple Silicon Macs and Windows 11 PCs. The discontinuation will proceed in stages: starting immediately, new Arc accounts can no longer be registered; on November 23, tab syncing and AI features such as Browse for Me in the iOS and Android versions of Arc will be shut down; and on December 22, the desktop version will stop working and Arc accounts will be deactivated. The company says maintaining two browsers at the same time is untenable from a security standpoint. What Is Voiceover? Meaning, Examples, and How to Make One

A voiceover is audio overlaid on a video without the speaker being seen, commonly used for narration, a character's inner monologue, advertising announcements, and instructional explanations. It differs from voice acting, narration, and dubbing: voice acting involves a speaker playing a character, while dubbing replaces the original audio track. With AI, users can record or generate custom voices at home to create voiceovers for film and television, games, advertising, and training videos.
