Samsung invited OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to discuss business strategies for the artificial intelligence (AI) era with the presidents of its major affiliates.
Samsung said it held a meeting between Altman and its executives on Oct. 31 at the Samsung Human Resources Development Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. About 50 executives from major affiliates, including Samsung Electronics and companies in the financial and biotechnology sectors, attended.
Under the theme “The Next Decade Transformed by AI: Choices for Businesses,” participants discussed the direction of AI technology development and emerging market and business opportunities. They also examined how AI could affect corporate decision-making and organizational operations, as well as the capabilities executives will need.
Samsung and OpenAI are already collaborating on business initiatives. In October 2025, Samsung Electronics and OpenAI signed a letter of intent (LOI) to cooperate on global AI infrastructure development and have been pursuing the supply of memory semiconductors for OpenAI’s Stargate project.
Samsung SDS is collaborating in AI data center construction and enterprise AI services, while Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries agreed to pursue joint development of offshore floating data centers. Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong also visited OpenAI’s headquarters in San Francisco in July 2026.
Before the meeting, Samsung executives received hands-on training in generative AI, four months after their first intensive training session in June 2026. They practiced using AI to organize various management materials, create personalized knowledge repositories and apply them to decision-making.
Since June 2026, Samsung has been pursuing a companywide AI transformation by applying the technology across research and development, production, marketing and support functions. The group has provided AI training to approximately 2,300 executives. It plans to expand the program to general employees and complete training for its entire workforce by February 2027.
Samsung has also established dedicated AI organizations at its affiliates. These teams are responsible for developing AI transformation (AX) strategies tailored to each business and supporting the operation and utilization of data and AI models.
