Block's AI research lab has released Dessa, a full-duplex speech model, opening a waitlist in the form of a research preview. It is trained only on human voice conversation audio, without using text or pretrained models. The model can run locally on a MacBook Pro M4 Max or higher configuration, faster than real time; training used one NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 (72 GPUs). No benchmark scores, parameter count, weights, paper, or API have been published so far.
Baseten's Base Labs has released a 2B decision model, joey-1, post-trained on Qwen3.5-2B, which directly returns labels and calibrated probabilities instead of generating text, targeting high-concurrency routing, classification, and guardrail checks. The model scores 63.30 on the public Jev Decision Index 0.4 set, the highest among models under 4B, but 8.94 points lower than the 9B elephant-1. Model APIs are priced at $0.01 per million input tokens, with a P50 latency of 20 ms for an average 2000-token request; the weights are open-sourced under the MIT license on Hugging Face and can be self-hosted on a single CUDA GPU.

In the early hours of October 24, Moonshot AI (Kimi) officially launched Kimi K3.1 Pro, calling it its most capable 3-trillion-level parameter model to date, supporting a 1-million context window, with notable improvements in coding, 3D creation, financial research, and long-horizon Agent capabilities. Kimi K3.1 Pro is a post-trained version of Kimi K3; through enhanced post-training compute and technical optimization, it achieves comprehensive improvements across all domains from large-scale RL. This is the first time Kimi has introduced a Pro model in its model versions, and it is also the first model in the K3.1 series, leaving room for subsequent cost-effective models.

Hugging Face on Thursday released the open-source DNA understanding model Carbon-X, which can run locally on a laptop, letting users ask in natural language how DNA changes affect gene activity and health. The model was developed in collaboration with researchers at Zhongguancun Academy and the University of Naples Federico II; it extends the vocabulary of an existing language model to read DNA in six-letter units and was further trained on 300 billion tokens of DNA sequences, English text, and samples pairing DNA with biological descriptions. The model has 14B parameters and can process sequences of about 50,000 base pairs at a time; it cannot upload a complete human genome. The developers also note that the prediction accuracy has not yet been validated through wet-lab experiments.

Hugging Face has released the open-source model Carbon-X, combining DNA analysis and generation with natural language so that researchers can ask questions directly and receive predictions and explanations. The model is based on Qwen3-14B and was trained on genomic sequences and natural language from humans, other mammals, plants, and fungi, with viruses explicitly excluded from the training data. Researchers can run it locally, avoiding the sharing of sensitive patient data with external AI companies, and can also generate new DNA sequences to assist gene therapy research.

Google has released its flagship model Gemini 4 Argon, focused on coding, professional knowledge work, and sustained execution of complex tasks. The API launch price is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with the discount running through November 30; from December 1, prices return to $4 and $20. On the third-party Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, Argon High ties with GPT-6 Astra Max and Claude Fable5.1 Max at 53 points, at an average cost of $1.99 per task, about 39% lower than Astra. Google says that on an ADK project it worked unattended continuously for 11 hours, proposed six optimization plans involving 32 files, and ran 16,892 tests, two of which were merged, reducing long-session memory preparation overhead by about 40%.

Elorian has released its first model, Glimpse, opening the API as a research preview, with a waitlist for the chat interface. During reasoning, the model can crop image regions, extract video frames, or run code to measure and compare what it sees, which Elorian calls a visual draft space. Glimpse is priced at $0.60 per million input tokens and $3 per million output tokens, and according to Elorian's evaluations it surpasses GPT-6 Astra on scientific chart reasoning and short video description. The company says the model was trained on several hundred GPUs, a scale notably smaller than the frontier systems it benchmarks against, and it initially targets enterprises with large amounts of video, such as robotics, research laboratories, and media and creative firms.
