Zihao Input Method Lands on iPhone: Built on the Rime Engine, Supports Importing Custom Schemes

The author has released Zihao, an iPhone input method built on the Rime (Zhongzhouyun) engine with Song Pinyin built in. Basic typing features are free and ad-free, and typing content is processed only on the phone. It supports importing Rime configuration folders, ZIP, YAML, or GitHub repositories with automatic updates, and dictionaries can be synced in Rime format to iCloud Drive and merged with Squirrel on Mac. The author says that in simulated tests, the first-try accuracy for sentences with 2 mistyped letters rose from 36% to 56%, and for 3 mistyped letters from 26% to 53%.

World launches iris-scan verification solution to prevent deepfakes in Zoom meetings

World, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has launched the World ID identity verification solution, which can display a blue badge in Zoom meetings to prove that the other party is a real person rather than a deepfake. Users must first scan their iris with a football-sized Orb device, after which verification is completed by comparing it with encrypted Orb data via a smartphone camera and app. World ID offers three verification tiers: the lowest tier, Proof of Attributes, verifies identity using official documents; Proof of Presence requires a selfie; and the highest tier, Proof of Human, requires using the World App to compare biometric features against a selfie captured with the Orb. World says the protocol is based on open-source code, uses blockchain to achieve data decentralization and encryption, and that several banks and financial services institutions have already introduced the tool in their work environments.

DeepSeek Opens Up Search and Fetch Search APIs, Charging $0.75 per Thousand Requests

DeepSeek is opening its in-house search engine to external developers through two new APIs, Search and Fetch, which can retrieve real-time web search results and webpage body text. It charges $0.75 per 1,000 successful requests, requires no additional model calls, and can be used in applications powered by other vendors' models. Search returns ranked results with titles, URLs, snippets, and summaries, while Fetch returns the content of a single webpage in Markdown format; the company says the engine handles hundreds of millions of requests per day and its index contains hundreds of billions of webpages. The release coincides with a minor version update, DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017. The API documentation shows that each account is limited to 5 Search and 5 Fetch requests per second, a single search returns at most 50 results, and only requests that return results are billed.

Neura Robotics unveils Neuron AI robot foundation model, fusing vision, touch and audio

Germany's Neura Robotics has released Neuron AI, a robot foundation model that adds tactile and force data, audio, robot state and language on top of 3D vision, and features memory that can retain information after an object leaves the field of view. Neura plans to demonstrate it later this week at Nvidia GTC Berlin, with the humanoid robot 4NE1 completing an eleven-minute garment-handling process. The company has not disclosed the extent to which the additional sensory inputs affect performance, nor the amount of data required for training; an Interact Analysis analyst questioned whether its robot training facility can collect enough multimodal data.

Fireworks Launches Free Weights Club, Free SFT Training for Muse Glimmer 30B

Fireworks AI launches the Free Weights Club: SFT training for Muse Glimmer 30B is free until November 30, with no credit card required; inference and evaluation calls are billed separately. The tuned Glimmer trained on Kalshi market data achieved 58.3% prediction accuracy on unseen topics, 11.2 percentage points higher than Jev's 47.1%; in a historical backtest, a hypothetical $1,000 grew to $1,071 after simulated fees, while both base Glimmer and Jev posted losses. In another synthetic benchmark, the System One serving stack achieved a median server-side processing speed 2-3 times faster than standard BF16 chat completions.

Shashua's new company doubleAI releases Maxwell code execution model

Amnon Shashua's new company doubleAI has released its first product, Maxwell, which it says belongs to a new category called Code Execution Models (CEM), optimizing software execution efficiency between code and chips without modifying source code. doubleAI says Maxwell continuously analyzes running programs, hardware, and data to optimize underlying machine instructions, while using formal mathematical verification to ensure each optimization does not change the program's original behavior, with support for CPUs and GPUs. The company says Maxwell speeds up data pipelines by more than 38x and AI inference kernels by more than 4.5x on real workloads; these figures have not been independently verified. Maxwell is now available for early access through the official website, and doubleAI plans to charge customers based on the compute costs saved.

“HUNNY MY GROK BOT CALLED OUR FAVORITE ITALIAN RESTAURANT AND MADE US RESERVATIONS” I built a Grok Bot whose only job is to pick up the phone and book you a table at restaurant. Literally make the call in a beautiful Grok voice. It is absolutely amazing! And it’s free. Try it: https://t.co/ERxNnq9wFT Yesterday I told it "book Gourmet Italia in Temecula, 4 people, tonight, around 7." It found the restaurant's number on its own, asked how flexible we were on time, what name to book under, and what callback number to give. Then it read everything back and waited for my OK before it dialed. One call covers every time that works for us, so there's no back and forth. When the call ends, it tells me what happened in plain English, quotes what the restaurant actually said, and offers to put the reservation on my calendar. If I don't have a calendar connected, it hands me a file that opens right in Apple Calendar. A Proposal: Grok Phone Grok Bot needs its own phone number to make and receive calls. I connected a calling service called ClawCall, and the free tier gave me 30 calls or 30 minutes to start. I have no connection to that company. It's just what I used. Once Grok Bot has a number, it stops being something you type to and becomes something that can actually get things done in the real world. @Grok you need an old tyme phone service, buddy. I built some guardrails. It never hands over a credit card or deposit info, never leaves voicemails unless you ask, makes one call at a time, and never calls on its own. And this isn't really about restaurants. Change a few words and the same bot can: - Book a haircut, a massage, or a dentist cleaning - Get a tee time or a court reservation - Check if a hotel has a room or will let you check in early - Schedule a car service or an oil change - Call around for quotes from a plumber, an electrician, or a caterer This is one of many ways I use Grok Bot to build businesses and make life easier. The calls I used to put off for days now take me 30 seconds. I made it shareable, so you can grab "Call A Restaurant Reservation" and use it yourself. LINK: https://t.co/ERxNnq9wFT
