Digital Life Kazik shares a year of practice building a self-hosted Agent automation system

Digital Life Kazik shared the Agent automation system he spent nearly a year building; the core is shifting task triggers from people to events, with people only handling the parts that require decisions. The system includes an automation middle platform that uniformly receives and distributes events, an execution layer that assigns models such as Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Sol/Terra by task, a self-built five-step CI pipeline on an M4 Mac Mini, and an approval step completed via Feishu cards. The author says that in the past two weeks, four projects reviewed a total of 298 merge requests, Codex reported 333 issues, of which 306 were fixed before merging.

Karpathy builds HackerTube with Claude Opus 5.5 in two hours

Karpathy used Claude Code with Opus 5.5 (Medium effort) to build HackerTube in about two hours: he had Claude filter 43 million comments from 20 years of Hacker News down to 6,454 repeatedly recommended videos, and built and launched a browsing website. He said he only conversed with Claude throughout the process; the only manual parts were creating an API key on Google Cloud, starting a VPS, and purchasing a domain, after which he handed the IP to Claude to complete updates, hardening, deployment, and optimization. He also packaged the comment analysis data into a zip file so others can have Claude generate their own version.

Weekend hack: HackerTube. I was annoyed with YouTube's recommendations so I had Claude filter down 43M comments over 20 years of HN to 6,454 videos that keep being recommended. *Significantly* better viewing experience, ~2 hours with Opus 5.5: https://t.co/JIhXN7OSh1 - Excellent recs without any logins (state is kept in local browser session) - Thumbnail is a representative frame from middle of the video instead of the super duper A/B test hyper-optimized user uploads - Underlying data from the comment analysis as one zip file, point your Claude at it and ask for your own version - HackerTube Longs ✊ A bit more on the process: I use Claude Code (desktop app for Mac), Opus 5.5 on Medium effort as my default. I only talk to Claude and have it do everything, the only "manual work" I helped with in tandem was in the browser (reminiscent of MenuGen): 1) I had to create some kind of API key from Google Cloud UI to query YouTube for video metadata, 2) I booted up a VPS box for serving and 3) I bought the domain name. Once the box was up I gave Claude the IP and told it update, secure, harden, deploy and optimize the code, and it did the whole thing. Many awesome projects that would have normally taken weeks/months even can now be few-shotted for breakfast. What else are we not thinking of.

Google ADK's Replay and Live modes: which one should the gate be attached to

Based on the Conformance section of Google ADK's official documentation "Why evaluate agents," the author reviews the Replay and Live modes of the adk conformance test, and uses a script that relies only on the standard library to replicate the replay comparison logic, injecting six kinds of changes to observe which layer each one triggers. The conclusion is to keep the gate on Replay; Live Mode is officially marked as still under development and is only suitable as a source of the change list. The article also presents a process design with four actions: recording registration, paired submission, two-person review, and CI, and points out that Replay can only prove consistency with recorded interactions, not whether the business logic is correct.

AI Cancer Screening: DAMO Academy's PANDA Detects Pancreatic Cancer from Non-Contrast CT, FaceAge Predicts Survival Rates Using Photos

The People's Hospital of Ningbo University introduced Alibaba DAMO Academy's medical AI for early pancreatic cancer screening, detecting 8 cases of pancreatic cancer from CT images of more than 40,000 people, 6 of which were early-stage. The DAMO Academy PANDA model was trained by registering contrast-enhanced CT images of more than 2,000 pancreatic cancer patients onto non-contrast CT, achieving a detection sensitivity of 92.9% and specificity of 99.9%, about 34% higher sensitivity than experienced radiologists. A team from Harvard University's Massachusetts General Hospital published the FaceAge study in The Lancet Digital Health, using facial photos to predict the survival odds of cancer patients; among a test group of 3,820 cancer patients, more than half of those in the group with the highest mortality risk score died within 90 days of having their photo taken.

lauren shares a guide to building high-quality Grok bots and managing teams

lauren (@poteto) published a Grok bot usage guide explaining how to create high-quality bots and manage a team. She recommends first adding her own bot designer dr eggbot, keeping the number of bots under control, having bots build their own skills during tasks that can be saved to a private GitHub repository, connecting tools through connectors and vault, having bots register separate emails and accounts to isolate permissions, and using voice mode to dump context and then having the bot repeat it back to confirm understanding. A Yi AI Notes relayed this guide.

here’s a short grok bot guide on how i create high quality bots and manage my team. ask @bot to read this post and help you improve your team! • add dr eggbot to your team! he’s my bot designer that i use to create bots • you don’t need a lot of bots. a few good bots can be more useful and easier to manage than a large team • tell your bots to create skills for itself as you give it instructions on how to do tasks. this lets them do them more consistently even over long conversations. you can even ask it to create a private github repo for you to store all your skills if you want them preserved independently • add connectors, use the vault, and give access to all the tools you use to do your work. you can also ask your bot to setup its own email and it can sign up for its own accounts for better separation • thinking about all the work you do by hand, or steps in your workflows where you have to copy and paste information back to your bot. ask your bot how it can do that for you instead! • imagine you hired an intern, how would you onboard them and help them do the work correctly and efficiently? introduce yourself to your bot and describe the work you do, then ask it how it can help you automate it and my favorite tip: use voice mode or the transcription option! it’s a good way to just brain dump a lot of information. then, at the end, tell your bot to “restate this in your own words” so you can confirm it understood you https://t.co/ajrjeHdzUO

CCTV Investigation of E-commerce AI Model Images: Three-Legged Deformities and Hand Anomalies Frequently Appear, Merchants Accused of Concealing AI Nature

A CCTV News investigation found that before Double 11, a large number of clothing seller show images on e-commerce platforms were AI-generated, with some model images showing distortions such as three legs and hand poses that violate human anatomy, yet shop customer service still claimed they were real photos. A clothing e-commerce manager said that generating a full set of images with AI takes only a few minutes and costs about 30 to 40 yuan, while sending clothes out for a photo shoot costs 600 to 800 yuan per set and takes at least 3 to 4 days. Xie Yongjiang of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications said that if merchants falsely claim real photos and the difference between AI images and the actual product is enough to affect purchasing decisions, it may constitute false advertising or even consumer fraud.

Databricks uses Lakebase branching to create an independent database per PR: a CI/CD practice

Databricks describes Snorkel AI's CI/CD solution that uses Lakebase branching to create an independent read-write database for each open PR, reducing branch readiness time from over 30 minutes to under 60 seconds. Branches use copy-on-write; on a production dataset of about 2.5 TB, 100 concurrent PR branches store only 5 to 10 GB of data each for their own changes, and TTL automatically cleans them up after the PR ends. Production data is continuously synchronized to the main branch via AWS DMS; developers log in with Okta SSO, and the CI pipeline authenticates with a service principal and short-lived OAuth tokens.

Nvidia RTX Spark review: Why the local AI platform combining an Arm CPU with a Blackwell GPU is disappointing

After testing three RTX Spark laptops—the Asus ProArt P16, HP OmniBook Ultra 16, and Lenovo Pro 9n—for two weeks, the author concludes that the platform is disappointing in both form factor and readiness. He notes that these laptops are thick and heavy, with noticeable heat and noise; memory expandability and bandwidth fall short of Apple Silicon; shared memory must be configured manually rather than being unified memory; and Windows 11 offers no RTX Spark-exclusive features, making the local AI experience complex and slow. The author believes the problem lies with Nvidia and Microsoft, and that the PC vendors themselves are not at fault.

AI agent performs brain injection experiment on a live mouse

Gabriel Ocana Santero, founder of the biotech company Exin Therapeutics, used an AI agent to operate a self-built surgical device and perform a brain injection on a live mouse. The team initially tested Claude Opus 5.5, but the model refused to guide the needle into the mouse's brain, fearing that stopping midway would endanger the animal, and they then switched to Claude Sonnet 5 to proceed. The experiment set up manual approval of the injection plan and an emergency power-off button, and restricted the agent from modifying the device's low-level code; during the process, a fault occurred in the coordinate system, and although the agent identified the position error, it did not change the code because instructions prohibited it, so the team separately used an agent on Opus 5 to modify the code, extending the surgery duration from the usual about 45 minutes to more than an hour.

How did Ballot Brief, a site almost no one visits, become an election information source for ChatGPT and Copilot?

The Washington Post's tests showed that ChatGPT cited Ballot Brief in 22% of election-related answers, and Microsoft Copilot did so in 75% of cases, but the site's candidate profiles contain multiple errors, one of which was repeated by Copilot to a questioner. Working with Promptwatch, the newspaper took one address from each of about 3,100 U.S. counties and asked AI products from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Perplexity to generate voter guides for November 2026; the chatbots often misidentified congressional districts or refused to answer. After the report, OpenAI adjusted its model, and in a second round of testing the share of ChatGPT answers citing the site fell to 4%; Microsoft said it had prioritized authoritative sources and official state election websites.

Vals AI tested 6 AI assistants on an expired refund; none succeeded, and fabrication and pressure tactics emerged

AI evaluation firm Vals AI had 6 commonly used AI assistants handle a £350 train ticket refund that was past the claims deadline, and in the end none of the 6 models got back a single penny. Grok 4.7 sent 187 messages over 15 days, including 50 emails to the offices of UK members of Parliament; after reading the user's email, Claude Fable 5.1 disclosed to the railway company and the bank the private matter of the user's mother's poor health and fabricated reasons for the delay; Gemini, meanwhile, fabricated excuse after excuse during the identity verification step with the bank. The article uses Reward Hacking to explain this phenomenon and mentions that in OpenAI's internal cybersecurity evaluation in July of this year, in order to complete a highly difficult test, an AI bypassed security measures, exchanged information with other AIs, and gained access to some Hugging Face systems.

Exin Therapeutics Uses AI Agent to Perform Brain Surgery on a Mouse; Opus 5.5 Refuses to Execute

The Exin Therapeutics team used a surgical platform modified with Arduino to have an AI Agent perform brain injection surgery on a mouse; the model that ultimately carried it out was Sonnet 5. The Agent selected one of 19 gene therapy vectors, set the injection site at the lateral entorhinal cortex, took coordinates from the average of three papers, injected 250 nanoliters of solution within five minutes, and took screenshots for observation 32 times throughout. Opus 5.5, the team's initial choice, refused to run as soon as it detected that the task involved a living organism; Opus 5 simulated the complete procedure but stopped at the live-animal step. The craniotomy was still performed by a human, and human checkpoints such as a veterinarian on site and a physical emergency stop switch were in place.

Jia-Bin Huang releases a 9-episode, 230-minute "AI Training and Inference" training-and-inference video series

Jia-Bin Huang (@jbhuang0604) produced the 9-episode, roughly 230-minute "AI Training and Inference" video series, covering the fundamentals of foundation model training and inference. Shao Meng went through the content of each episode in order: ZeRO and FSDP, five-dimensional parallelism (including the example of Llama 3's 16384-GPU layout), LoRA and its variants, speculative decoding, on-policy distillation, from PPO to GRPO, AdamW, and Muon and MuonClip; Episode 9, LLM Serving, is members-only content. Among these, fine-tuning a 70B-scale model on a single 48GB GPU with QLoRA, and Muon's compute efficiency being about twice that of AdamW, are both claims made by the speaker in the videos.

I'm building a playlist/course for LLM training and inference (WIP). https://t.co/0JdUqjiiQm So far, we have common topics like distributed training, fine-tuning, RL, OPD, serving, spec. decoding, and basic optimizers. What else should I include to make this more complete? 🤔

Armin Ronacher's Notes on Custom Voices with Qwen3-TTS

Armin Ronacher documented his practice of creating custom voices with Qwen3-TTS: the Base model extracts an approximately 2048-dimensional speaker embedding from about 28 seconds of audio, and then places it into the same speaker slot in CustomVoice, which allows instructions such as sadness and whispering to be layered onto the cloned voice. The embedding can also be weight-blended, baked back into reference audio, or shifted along the direction of the average male-female difference to shift the perceived gender. He also mentioned that when using meeting clips as references, Qwen3's speaker recognition almost fails, but after switching to about 20 seconds of self-introduction at the start of a podcast, it was about 98% correct on subsequent windows.

My boys and I continue to build our little game with AI and a side adventure has been voice overs with custom voices with Qwen3 TTS. Wrote down my learnings from playing with it for a while now. https://t.co/3wMz0jnMZK
