Google Launches Connected Apps Platform, Opening Gemini and Search Access to Developers

Google has released the Connected Apps Platform, allowing enterprises and developers to submit their own apps for integration with Gemini and Google Search, and to choose to launch on only one or both. The platform is currently available in beta preview to US developers; after launch, it will allow tracking of traffic, latency, and error rates, while retaining brand identity and verified accounts. Gemini already has more than 50 Connected Apps, including partners such as Adobe, Experian, Localiza, and Peloton; these apps will enter Google Search in the coming weeks. The meditation app Calm will also launch on Gemini and Search.

DeepSeek Opens Up Search and Fetch Search APIs, Charging $0.75 per Thousand Requests

DeepSeek is opening its in-house search engine to external developers through two new APIs, Search and Fetch, which can retrieve real-time web search results and webpage body text. It charges $0.75 per 1,000 successful requests, requires no additional model calls, and can be used in applications powered by other vendors' models. Search returns ranked results with titles, URLs, snippets, and summaries, while Fetch returns the content of a single webpage in Markdown format; the company says the engine handles hundreds of millions of requests per day and its index contains hundreds of billions of webpages. The release coincides with a minor version update, DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017. The API documentation shows that each account is limited to 5 Search and 5 Fetch requests per second, a single search returns at most 50 results, and only requests that return results are billed.

Claude launches Enterprise Managed Authentication (EMA), letting admins connect plugins org-wide via their identity provider

Claude launches Enterprise Managed Authentication (EMA), which lets admins connect plugins for the entire organization through their identity provider, so members no longer need to search for, sign in to, and authorize each plugin themselves; the capability is based on an open extension to MCP. Claude also supports automatically connecting to MCP servers that accept Claude as a trusted issuer when users sign in to Claude; this auto-connect feature is in beta for Team and Enterprise plans and already supports Amplitude, Atlassian, Datadog, Dropbox, Figma, Granola, HubSpot, Linear, Mixpanel, Notion, PagerDuty, Semrush, and Supabase. If an organization's identity provider does not support EMA, Claude can vouch for each signed-in member directly, and once an admin configures it, eligible members can connect automatically.

ChatGPT Adds iCloud Mail and Calendar Plugins

OpenAI says it has added iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar plugins to ChatGPT. The calendar integration can read, schedule, and update events in the iPhone calendar and in third-party apps that use iCloud Calendar; the mail integration can search and read iCloud Mail, manage emails and drafts, send emails, and look up iCloud contacts. ChatGPT can only access iCloud mailboxes at @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com, and cannot see other accounts such as Gmail or Outlook in the iOS Mail app, and both integrations require creating an app-specific password. The plugins are available across all plans on web, desktop, and iOS, and can also be used with Dots, the proactive agent OpenAI launched last month.
