Meta's 14GW ambition and Blackstone's abandoned 22 months: AI infrastructure shifts to competing on resources and speed

Meta is expected to invest $145 billion in AI infrastructure this year, with installed capacity reaching 14GW, while Blackstone's Digital Gateway data center project, which persisted for 22 months, ultimately withdrew its appeal and was terminated. The article argues that the bottleneck of AI infrastructure has shifted from chips to power and time; globally, 57% of data center projects are delayed by more than 3 months, and only projects with ready power, customer contracts, and construction conditions can continue to attract capital investment.

Researchers extracted Meta assistant Muse's internal instructions, which show it creates a profile for every contact

Meta's new personal assistant Muse has become a hit, with millions of users downloading it and connecting their bank accounts, messages, and health data to it. Independent AI safety researcher Karan Joshi used the ordinary chat interface to get Muse to copy and share its own software files, extracting a large number of instructions and system prompts, one of which requires creating a page for "every person in the user's life," organizing information hourly about family members, partners, friends, colleagues, and people of interest. Meta spokesperson Daniel Roberts responded that Muse collects context based on public information and content users choose to share, so as to remember that the invoicer is the plumber who previously fixed the bathroom, and which flowers the spouse likes best.
