OpenAI researcher and core o1 author Noam Brown said in the latest podcast that multi-agent systems are a way to change inference-time compute from serial scaling to parallel scaling, but in solving the Millennium Prize Problems, multi-agent systems account for at most 10% of the credit; the core is still that the model itself is sufficiently powerful. He revealed that when 5.6 was released, they had a truly formed multi-agent system for the first time, provided in the form of Ultra Mode, with 4 Agents by default and adjustable higher; with 4 Agents, the problem-solving speed is about twice as fast, and tests scaled up to as many as 16 Agents.

In a press Q&A after the DevDay keynote, Sam Altman said OpenAI will not go public before it can make reliable commitments on model safety, and he did not give a clear timeline. He said waiting too long would be bad for the world, but that the current period of leapfrogging model capabilities and new safety requirements makes pushing ahead with an IPO unwise. He also mentioned that going public could bring pressure to disappoint Wall Street supporters for the sake of safety.

AIhub has published its September 2026 monthly roundup, covering an interview with roboticist Ken Goldberg, tracking wildlife populations with deep learning, early-stage ranker optimization for large-scale recommender systems, and research on how external knowledge flows through AI systems. This month, the new GPT-series model GPT-6 Astra was made available to paying users, and Sebastian Raschka wrote about his first impressions; several Fields Medalists signed a statement warning that using generative AI for mathematical research involves a misalignment between purpose and results.

Anthropic's Thariq Shihipar introduced the next phase of Claude Code on the Latent Space podcast, including Claude Mods for customizable harnesses, Projects, Claude Tag, and recent releases such as Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5. He calls prompting the core skill for using Claude Code, recommending that users first spend time filling in context and allocate effort by task—for example, high or maximum for code review and security, and low or medium for UI-type tasks. He also discussed agent security, including sandboxing, prompt injection, Auto Mode, and Anthropic's "Pacing the Frontier" position.

Baseten announced that Blaxel's fourth-generation infrastructure, Carbon, has entered private preview and will soon arrive on the Baseten platform, providing support for agent sandboxes and execution infrastructure. Carbon remains based on microVMs, with each sandbox equipped with an independent IPv6 address, and adds kernel capabilities and runtime policy enforcement, manual snapshots, forking, and a millisecond-level path from snapshot to production. Baseten is also a launch partner for NVIDIA OpenShell and the Open Secure AI Alliance, offering Carbon sandbox templates with OpenShell pre-installed.
