Meta Acquires AI Coding Startup Conductor, Doubling Down on the Agentic Coding Track

2026-11-05 15:19 IT Home - Yuanyang

IT Home, November 5 news: Meta has acquired AI coding startup Conductor. The company developed an AI coding tool that allows users to launch and advance multiple software projects simultaneously by deploying AI agents across multiple parallel workspaces.

Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz posted on Wednesday: "Big news to share: Conductor is joining Meta." He also revealed that the company is making some bold plans for the next generation of interaction interfaces, and teased that it will bring something new to users "early next year."

IT Home noted that Holtz also said on X that he looks forward to working with Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman, product lead of Meta Superintelligence Labs.

He added: "Their momentum recently has been incredibly strong, and I'm confident that the talent density at MSL is the highest among all AI labs."

Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but declined to comment further and did not disclose other details of the deal.

Conductor was founded in 2024, and its core product was only officially launched last summer. The company's team of AI agents can be deployed in the cloud, on local devices, or on users' phones, aiming to help software engineers collaboratively handle separate, isolated parts of the same project.

It is worth noting that the AI agents invoked by the Conductor platform are not developed in-house by the company, but come from major AI labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI.

Holtz said that until early next year, Conductor's core features will continue to operate as before. However, Conductor's cloud service will shut down on November 20, at which point the company will begin deleting user data stored in the cloud.

Meta, which had previously lagged behind competitors in the AI services field, has been working hard to catch up over the past few months. In August this year, the company launched its self-developed AI coding agent Muse Code.

Meanwhile, Meta's recently launched Muse series of agents has also gained considerable market attention. The company recently disclosed that the service's user count has surpassed 10 million.

Over the past year, Meta has also made a series of AI-related acquisitions, including the AI agent social platform Moltbook, which previously went viral after attracting widespread attention due to fake posts.
