Windows 11 optimizes 8 GB memory performance
On November 3, Pavan Davuluri, Microsoft Corporate Vice President of Windows + Devices, published a post on the Windows Experience Blog introducing Windows 11 optimizations for PCs with 8 GB of memory. Microsoft says that on 8 GB memory PCs, compared with the January 2026 version, response speeds for operations such as opening the Start menu, search, the context menu, Settings, Snipping Tool and File Explorer are improved by up to 20%; in its lab multitasking test, opening 20 Edge tabs, a 4K video, large Word, PowerPoint and Excel files, Outlook and File Explorer in sequence and keeping them all open completed up to 40% faster. Specific changes include: adjusting the memory compression strategy to retain up to 2 GB more active data in memory; prioritizing foreground tasks during user operations while deferring background tasks such as search indexing; reducing committed memory growth by up to 900 MB combined across Windows, Edge and Microsoft 365 apps, with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook saving 360 MB combined; on PCs with 8 GB or less memory, widgets now load only when opened, saving about 200 MB; and the default sleep time for inactive Edge tabs is shortened from 2 hours to 15 minutes.
Users need to update to Windows 11 version 26H2 build 26300.9818 or later and keep Edge, Microsoft 365 and Teams up to date.
Google exposes Android TV box botnet
On November 2, Google's Threat Intelligence team published a report stating that last week it worked with industry partners to dismantle a backdoor and botnet named XCPE, which controlled more than 1.3 million set-top boxes.
Google said it has high confidence that the backdoor was developed, deployed and operated for profit by Android device contract manufacturer Videostrong Technology, which sold access to infected devices to criminal groups and loaded malicious modules for them, used for ad fraud, turning devices into residential proxy exits and installing more malicious programs. Infected devices are mainly Android TV set-top boxes, but also include some remote medical devices, karaoke devices and digital signage. Google has taken legal action to take down the domains and servers controlling the network and has acted against the control domains of more than a dozen malware families distributed through the backdoor, saying this will also cut off access to at least 10 million other infected devices.
Google has also terminated its cooperation with Videostrong Technology, banned the company and its affiliates from manufacturing and selling certified Android devices or providing software to other certified manufacturers, and adjusted its certification review process. Because the backdoor is preinstalled in the firmware, it will automatically reinstall after a user uninstalls it and reboots. Videostrong Technology (Shenzhen Videostrong Technology Co., Ltd.) is a smart hardware product and overall solutions provider headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China, founded in 2011.
Main business and positioning • Smart hardware and robotics: Providing one-stop OEM/ODM customization and R&D services for products such as AI companion robots (e.g., pet robots and home companion robots) and intelligent interactive robots. • Digital media and set-top boxes: Long engaged in the R&D, design, and manufacturing of Android TV and Google TV set-top boxes as well as digital audio and video equipment, and formerly a partner in the Android TV and related ecosystems.
Kimi releases game development solution
On November 2, Moonshot AI's Kimi released its "Game Development and Creative Work Solution." The solution is based on the Kimi K3.1 series models, Kimi Code, and the Kimi Work series of Agent products, and offers plugins for professional tools such as Unity, Unreal Engine, and Blender. After obtaining project files and permissions, it can directly operate the editor, modify existing projects, and deliver files that can continue to be edited along with a record of operations. Officially described scenarios include using the Godot engine to create playable prototypes, which the company says planning teams lacking programming experience can complete within 1 to 2 days; checking art assets in Blender for proportion, intersection, and material issues and completing preliminary modifications; locating and modifying code in Unity and Unreal Engine projects; and, during the publishing and operations stages, organizing community feedback and conducting preliminary screening of UGC.3
Qualcomm AI Hub opens to Chinese developers
On November 2, Qualcomm announced that the Qualcomm AI Hub is open to Chinese developers. The platform consists of four parts: Qualcomm AI Hub Models, Workbench, Apps, and GenieX. Models provides more than 230 pre-optimized models, including models for the Chinese market; Workbench supports developers in importing their own models and completing optimization, quantization, compilation, and performance analysis on real cloud-hosted devices; Apps provides sample applications and reference code; GenieX is an on-device generative AI inference runtime that can run models locally on NPU, GPU, and CPU via command line, Python, and Java APIs. The China edition also provides resources and support through its official website, Qualcomm's China device farm in the cloud, and developer forums.1
SenseTime releases SenseNova 6.8 Flash
On November 2, SenseTime released the official version of SenseNova 6.8 Flash. SenseNova 6.8 Flash supports cross-task and cross-session collaboration and long-term memory; design generation supports formats such as Web, SVG, Three.js, Blender, and PPT, and can create dynamic PPTs, dynamic posters, and Agentic 3D designs, and can connect to design workflows such as Figma. SenseTime says the model surpasses some leading international models in evaluations of scenarios such as agent collaboration, data analysis, and presentation generation. The model is currently available for online trial, and the SenseNova Token Plan has also launched simultaneously.
Looking at the scores, it has already surpassed Claude? What level is this company at—never heard of it
On November 3, the National Development and Reform Commission held a press conference to brief on efforts to cultivate and strengthen new growth drivers. Wang Ruomeng, deputy director of the NDRC's Department of Innovation and High-Tech Development, said that the commission will closely monitor the impact of artificial intelligence on the employment structure and promote the inclusion of new occupations such as model trainers and data annotators in the national occupational classification system; regarding the risk of job displacement, it will strengthen monitoring and early warning, improve the alignment of the social security system with changes in the employment structure and ways of working, and provide basic, inclusive social security. In response to issues such as algorithmic discrimination, deepfakes, and privacy leaks, the NDRC said it will use technical means to enhance the ability to trace abuse and malicious use, and strengthen protection for groups such as the elderly and minors; on mental health, it will regulate human-machine boundaries and strengthen guidance and intervention to prevent addiction and emotional dependence. I can actually empathize with capitalists now, because I bought a coding plan, and when I don't see AI working, I feel I've lost money... I'm more worried that after AI becomes widespread, average social labor time in office scenarios will decrease, leading to pay cuts, or that with pay unchanged, the boss will increase your workload.2
