Several U.S. newspapers, including The New York Times and the New York Daily News, have sued Brave Software in Manhattan federal court, alleging that it used newspaper articles to train AI models without permission and allowed browser users to bypass paywalls. The complaint alleges that Brave charges Anthropic, Perplexity, xAI and other companies to provide real-time online content from the Brave index, but those AI companies were not named as defendants. The New York Times previously sued OpenAI and Microsoft in late 2023 over copyright issues related to AI training.

On November 2, 2026, OpenAI released the LifeVal benchmark, based in part on a survey of 3,995 respondents, to track model performance over time on practical matters such as finding childcare, making a budget, and ordering groceries. The benchmark's task domains come from the American Time Use Survey, cross-national time-use research, and a demographically representative survey, covering caregiving, health, education, household affairs, personal finance, shopping, and accessing government services. OpenAI published current model scores on five workflows, for example 93.1% for comparing kindergartens after a move, 98.0% for coordinating flood-prevention volunteers for four neighboring households, and 90.4% for creating a first-week care plan for a parent newly diagnosed with diabetes.

DeepSeek released the DeepSeek Harness v0.2.1-alpha.1 pre-release on October 3, 2026, adding a "Let Agent create a plugin" entry in plugin management; when selected, it brings the existing draft into Creator mode, and execution only begins after the user submits the plugin creation request. This version also fixes the issues of missing dependencies after enabling a new plugin package and residual dependency mappings after disabling or uninstalling, while replacing the version of an installed package still requires a restart. Harness is in the developer preview stage, and the official security notice states that it can execute model-generated code and commands, load third-party plugins, and access the network and files, and has not yet undergone a security audit.

Israeli AI startup 42AI has launched with a $62.5 million seed round to build what it calls behavioral world models, with its first customers being brokerages that want to anticipate how traders will act during market volatility. Its software converts personal characteristics into mathematical representations, and a Transformer-based world model calculates the probabilities of various choices, while a separate language model explains the basis for the predictions; brokerages can see which instruments, in which direction, and in what quantity a client is likely to trade over the next 24 hours. The company says it already works with ten large brokerages, has reached seven-figure revenue, and says one brokerage gained about $30 million in additional value through dynamic hedging, with its 98% accuracy rate measuring whether trading flow falls within the predicted range.
